Drama, Play
When a Bosniak man whose family fled to Chicago during the 1990s war returns to the city of his birth, he meets a woman and her grandmother who change his perceptions as he changes theirs. When the girl decides to wear hijab and become active in a medressa, the atheist American-Muslim challenges her choice. What is important to each of them and is there a place for their relationship to flourish given their differences? How important is commitment to one's country and helping it face down nationalism and post-war distrust? One performance only at 7 p.m. This new play by Wichitan Gretchen Eick won first place for play writing in the 2018 Kansas Authors' Club competition.
