Curator Talk: Jane Aspinwall

Curator Talk: Jane Aspinwall

Art Talk
From early aerial photography taken during the Civil War to the invention of the telephoto lens and camera miniaturization, people have used photography for voyeuristic purposes. In the 21st century, satellite technologies like Google Earth and drones have provided artists with views not previously thought possible. Join exhibition curator Jane Aspinwall for a discussion about the history of surveillance photography and the works on view in the exhibition, "Surveillance: Who Is Watching You." Aspinwall is Associate Curator of Photography at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. She has worked with the Hallmark Photographic Collection since 1999 and became the first photography curator at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art when the Hallmark collection was gifted in 2005. Surveillance galleries will be open prior to the talk. Free admission.
