Live Well With Diabetes A Free Event Saturday, November 3 2018 9 am – 2 pm K-State Research & Extension Sedgwick County Office, 7001 W. 21st St. North Open to those with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Adults, Children, Families, and those at Risk of Developing Diabetes • Free Health and Lab Screens • Free A1c blood glucose test • Free Foot Check • Free Blood Pressure Monitoring • Cooking Demonstrations • Nationally Recognized Speakers For nearly 300,000 Kansans, living with diabetes is a never-ending challenge that’s essential for survival. And this November, many of those Kansans of will join together with physicians, and nationally known speakers to discover how to actually live well with diabetes. Sponsored by Great Plains Diabetes, the Living Well With Diabetes event runs 9 am to 2 pm, Saturday, November 3rd at the Sedgwick County Extension Center, 7001 W. 21st N. The event offers a wide range of free health and lab screenings to help people determine where they stand with diabetes, and what they could do to improve their control of the disease. Throughout the day, students from the KU School of Pharmacy will provide free lab tests including A1c screenings to measure an individual’s blood glucose level, lipids screens, blood pressure checks, foot exams, medication evaluations, stress counseling, and more. Breakout sessions will provide news on the latest advancements in diabetes self-management, with information on insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, technological tracking advancements, and research underway that could someday lead to the cure. Led by area professional healthcare providers, people are encouraged to share questions and comments from their personal experience with diabetes at the sessions. Live cooking demonstrations will also be featured at the Live Well With Diabetes event, as well a Recognition of Heroes with Diabetes by Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell to honor people who for decades have lived well with diabetes.
